Excerpt: I pulled into the park and stopped a few feet shy of the valet stop. Night had set in and the weather was a nice sixty degrees. Perfect for a train ride and a stroll through the park. “We’re here.” I leaned over and helped Lexi remove the mask. “Oh wow.” She blinked a few times and looked around. “This is beautiful, Raven.” She peered out the window like kid anxious to run through an amusement park. “Do they always decorate the park with Christmas lights?” “Yes, Celebration in the Oaks has been a New Orleans’s traditions since I can remember.” “How fun.” “I bought us tickets for a train ride, which takes us around the park to see the Christmas lights.” “Oh that’s perfect.” She smiled and gave me a kiss on the cheek. “If you’re up to it, we can walk around afterwards. If not, I understand.” I wasn’t sure if she could handle strolling through the park with her big belly. I felt bad for all the weight she was carrying around. “Exercise is good for me, so I don’t mind.” “We’ll see how you feel after the train ride.” I pulled forward to the valet porter. “Okay.” We got out of the vehicle and walked toward the train station. Festive holiday music played and thousands of lights twinkled in a variety of colors. Some outlined the huge oak trees and others draped the moss-covered cypress trees. Various lighted displays were spread throughout the park creating a magical winter spectacular. Decorated Christmas trees lined the walkway giving it a cozy, intimate feel. “This reminds me of last year when you took me to downtown Fort Worth and we went ice skating.” “I know.” I laced my fingers through hers. “This was the weekend we hooked up and you stayed with me.” Lexi stopped and turned to me. “Oh no…” “Happy Anniversary, baby.” She covered her face with her hand. “How could I forget?” “It’s okay.” I chuckled. “You got a lot going on.” “Not more than you.” Disappointment laced her beautiful features. “No wonder you gave me the diamond earrings during dinner.” She shook her head. “I thought you were giving me an early Christmas gift. I’m such a loser.” “No you’re not.” I drew Lexi close to me. “You’re about to give birth to twins. I don’t think that puts you anywhere in the loser category.” “But I didn’t buy you anything.” Her hands rested on my chest. My eyes wandered behind her as the deep voices tried to enter my head. Telling me Lexi would never marry me. That she’d never be my wife. That all of this was just temporary. I shook my head and aligned my eyes with her. “There’s only one thing I want from you, Lexi.” Her gaze tore from mine. “I know. Please be patient with me. Okay?” I lifted her chin, bringing our gazes together again. “I already told you, I’m not going anywhere.” “Good. Because I’m not going to let you.” She smiled and then backed away, latching on to my hand. “Come on, let’s go have some fun. I might not be able to ice skate, but we can at least enjoy the lights.” “You got it, baby.” We boarded the train for the two-mile ride around the park. We laughed and talked the entire time as we passed the blinking Christmas displays, which included the animated Cajun Night Before Christmas display and the iconic snowman, Mr. Bingle, a New Orleans’ favorite. It was fun and festive and by the smile on Lexi’s face, I knew she was having a good time. “The lights were beautiful,” Lexi said, as I helped her step off the train. “I’m so glad you thought of this.” “I wasn’t sure it would be a good idea, since you were so far along.” She waved off my comment. “I’m pregnant, not handicap.” “I know, but it can’t be easy lugging around two babies.” “It’s not.” She huffed. “But it’s only temporary.” “Thank, God.” I wrapped my arm around her. “Because I miss you lying naked on top of me.” A soft moan escaped her lips. “I miss that, too.” “How long do we have to wait?” I cautiously asked. Her eyes darted to the sky. “I think six weeks, but it might be longer for C-section. I don’t know, but don’t let me forget to ask.” “Don’t worry, I won’t.” Apparently I wasn’t the only one missing the great sex. “So, have you decided on the names?” I held up my arm, pointing at my watch. “Times ticking.” “I know.” Lexi nodded repeatedly. “But this isn’t my decision alone. You have to agree, too.” “Okay. Then let’s decide tonight.” I spotted a vendor selling coffee and pastries. “You want something?” “Do you have to ask?” She winked. “You know my weakness.”

“I want to know the price,” she slurred. He looked up at her, and she pushed him further onto his back. “For you, price is no object.” Royce was being very suave. “Oh, I know. You give me everything I, or you want, and I’m very grateful, but you still haven’t named your price.” She dug her knees into the cushions that sided his ribcage and slowly inched upward. “Of what I have to give you.” “There is only one thing you can give me.” He was sliding provocatively under her, trying to adjust her position. “Or two or three.” “Yeah, I know. Sex is the one thing I’m not worried about. You want something else from me, Royce,” Susanna said. “Yes, I want a lot of things from you. I want a lot of things from you. I want you beside me all the time. I want your baby to be my son. I want you to have privacy and whatever you want. Most of all, I want you to get past all of this, and accept your position.” He broke his voice from the monotone. “I also want to eat your honey pot before I starve.” He jerked his shoulders in a quick and fluid motion, and his mouth was trapped under moist lips.

“Fine.  What about a favor, huh?  Friends do favors for each other all the time, don’t they?” Mack volleyed smoothly, studying her.  “How about you do me this favor, Millicent?  You won’t deny me that, will you?  Especially since you’re the one that got me into this predicament.”
“No, I suppose not.  I’d be happy to spend the holidays with you and your family.”
“Same here,” he admitted softly.  “Now, how do you feel about you and Paisley helping me decorate my place tomorrow?  It’s Saturday.  We both have the day off unless one of my patients decides to go into labor, and since nobody is that close to delivery yet, I think we’re pretty clear there.   My family expects to fly into Paradise and find my home a completely undecorated mess.  I’d love to knock my sister down a peg or two and surprise her with a perfectly designed Winter Wonderland.  Really, this is the least you could do,” he grumbled when Millie didn’t make a peep.  “Let me remind you once more that this shit is all your fault.”
“Such a sweet talker.”  Millie sighed dramatically and batted her eyelashes demurely.  “You sure know how to charm a girl.”
“My ex-wife used to say the same thing,” he reminisced.
You were married?  For real?  To a woman?”  Millie gaped in stunned disbelief, unable to imagine this male as a part of a couple.  Sure, she’d had her fantasies about her sexy boss.  Of course she had!  He was hot.  Lean and muscular in all the right places.  And she’d bet her right pinky toe that he was hung like a horse.  But that’s where the fantasy ended.  Because in addition to all she fantasized about, Mackenzie Daniels was also surly, stubborn and an all-around Gloomy Gus on most all the days that ended in Y.
“For your sake, lady, I’m going to choose not to be offended here,” Mack returned mockingly as he fought a grin.  “You don’t need to look quite so astonished; I’m not exactly an ogre, Mills.”
Staring up at him, Millie took stock of the Doc’s high, chiseled cheekbones, his dimpled chin, his square jaw and his perfectly sculpted, extremely kissable lips and she had to agree.  “No, definitely not an ogre,” she whispered, as her tongue darted out to lick her suddenly dry lips.  “What I meant to say is that I just never imagined anyone that valued his solitude and privacy as much as you do married to anyone.”
“I do enjoy my solitude and privacy, but I’m also a guy, Millie.   I do like to fuck.”
Millie nearly choked on her tongue.  “Women, right?”
“Yes, women!  Did you assume I was asexual?  Or did you think I was gay?  Do I strike you as a latent homosexual, Millie?” he asked as his steady gaze connected with her nervous one.
“N-no, but if you did swing that way, you should know that Paradise has this lovely florist that’s been looking for love in all the wrong places,” she managed to impart through her mostly frozen lips.
“He’ll have to keep lookin’ then because I’m straight as an arrow, woman,” Mack growled, his eyes skating hungrily over her pretty face.
“Doc, why are you tellin’ me this stuff?” Millie asked, trying desperately to understand where and when this new and open Mackenzie had emerged.  Would she find the ‘Old Mackenzie’ collapsed at his desk in the office?  Was she hallucinating?  What exactly had been in her sandwich from the diner?
“That’s what friends do, right?  Share and shit like that?” he asked with a careless shrug.
“I reckon,” Millie mumbled.  “But maybe we should think about getting back to the office.  It’s almost two and you’ve got a 2:30 with Sandy Bingham.”  Honestly, she was more than a little nervous standing here with him because suddenly Mack was eyeing her like she was a steak and he was a very hungry animal.  And crazily enough, she found herself not minding in the least the idea of being his meal.
Ignoring her reminder of his afternoon appointment, he kept staring at her.  “So, is that a yes to spending tomorrow with me?”
“I… uh…. I guess, if that’s really what you want,” she agreed, her cheeks blushing as she tried to make herself stop fidgeting like a teenage girl being asked on her first date.
“What about tonight?  Are you busy tonight?” he asked.
“I don’t think so.  Why?”
“Because, you haven’t seen my place.  I want to show it to you so that you can get an idea of what we’ll need.  I’ll even feed you if you’ll agree to help me out,” he offered calmly.
“I…you’re sure about this?” she asked, not quite able to believe that this man was volunteering to spend time with her.  Or hell, with anybody really.  Mack was a loner.  Everyone, including her, knew it.  He’d already knocked her off her axis with the news that he’d once had a wife.  Now, he was acting like -- dare she even imagine it – like he was actually interested in her?
“I’m positive.  And maybe tonight could be an adults-only evening since tomorrow will be kid-friendly,” he suggested smoothly.
“Uhmmm – okay,” she agreed slowly, nodding.  “I’m sure my mom and dad won’t mind watching Paisley for a few hours.”
“Good,” Mack declared with a satisfied nod as he reached around Millie to open the vehicle’s door for her.  “Then I’ll pick you up at your place around six.  Is that enough time to get off work and get Paisley to your parents’ house?”
Millie nodded as she began to climb into the cab of the truck, her mind reeling as she tried to keep up with their conversation.  Things were happening so quickly that she felt like she’d somehow fallen into an alternate universe – one where sexy-as-sin doctors wanted to spend time with her outside of work.  “Yeah, that’ll be…great,” she acknowledged, her voice a little shaky.  Offering him a dazed look, she shook her head.
“What?” he growled in that surly voice she knew so well.
“I don’t understand what’s happening here, Doc,” she said truthfully.  “Have you just asked me out on a date?” she asked, her eyes twinkling with enthusiasm as her heart pounded in her chest.
Mack’s face flushed and he shrugged.  “Why is it so important to women to label everything?  We’re gonna share a meal tonight.  If you wanna call it a date, I can’t stop you,” he declared before slamming the door on her reply.
“I’ll be damned,” Millie muttered to herself as she watched him slowly circle the SUV to reach the driver’s side.  “It’s an honest-to-God Christmas miracle.”

Review:

5 Stars

From the first time I read a book by these two crazies I've always known that each book after that would always bring me to a happy book reading place if I was in a reading funk. All of their books are rolling on the floor hilarious, need a cold shower steamy, and filled with characters you can't help but fall in love with. And this book was no different!
He might be a grouch but Dr. Mac is one sexy caveman alpha male, even if it did take him 6 months to see what was right in front of him.
Mille is the nurse with the heart of gold able to put up with him when most would be climbing the walls looking for an escape.
Put the two together and you've got yourself an explosion of hotness. And what brought them both to their senses? A five year old girl giving her kindergarten class a lesson in the birds and the bees complete with proper use of the words penis and vagina! Talk about a riot, I loved every bit of this book.
Mille is a sweetie who is unsure about love again after what her ex husband put her through and Dr.
Mac is the same after what his plastic ex wife did to him. If the two can get over their insecurities though you can see just how good for each other are.
The characters are well written and we also get to see for of Paradises craziest along with some new characters that brought the laugh factor off the scale!
Another success for Sarah  O'Rourke!
