Author:   Amy A. Bartol
Genre:  YA Dystopian

Synopsis

All she wants is a home, but can she find one…UNDER DIFFERENT STARS

Kricket Hollowell is normally not one to wish upon stars; she believes they’re rarely in her favor. Well versed at dodging caseworkers from Chicago’s foster care system, the past few years on her own have made Kricket an expert at the art of survival and blending in. With her 18th birthday fast approaching, she dreams of the day when she can stop running and find what her heart needs most: a home.

Trey Allairis hates Earth and doubts that anyone from his world can thrive here. What he’s learning of Kricket and her existence away from her true home only confirms his theory. But, when he and Kricket lie together under the stars of Ethar, counting them all may be easier than letting her go.

Kyon Ensin’s secrets number the stars; he knows more about Kricket’s gifts than anyone and plans to possess her because of them. He also knows she’s more valuable than any fire in the night sky. He’ll move the heavens and align them all in order to make her his own.

When everything in their world can be broken, will Kricket rely upon love to save her under different stars?

Excerpt:
Water swirls around me as I open my eyes. I shiver, realizing I’m in Trey’s arms. He’s standing chest deep in crystal blue water with Wayra pacing on the bank only steps away. Clutching Trey closer to me, my cheek remains on his shoulder. Watching a bead of water slip down his powerful neck, I hear Jax say, “She’s waking up.”
Trey, cupping his hand in the water, pours some of it over my hair. It drips down the sides of my face, cooling me. “Let’s get her out. I’ll get the visor and we can check her vitals.”
As Trey wades out of the pond with me in his arms, I try to lift my head from his shoulder. It makes me dizzy so I lay it back. It’s then I notice that I’m only in my bra and underwear. A blush creeps into my cheeks as I hug Trey tighter to me. Wayra meets us on the bank, draping a blanket over us. Trey sits down with me on his lap. He leans against a tree trunk holding me securely to his chest. Peeking at his face, he seems angry as he smoothes my hair back from my face.
Hurrying over with the visor that looks like grandma goggles, Trey sets them on my eyes. Everything is green as I gaze around at the water in front of us. Flashing green lights and readouts occupy the peripherals of the glasses, but the information is running faster than I can possibly read it.
“Ho!” Jax exclaims next to me.
Immediately, Trey’s arms tighten on me as he barks out, “What? How bad is it?”
“Naw, it’s not bad…it’s just…Kricket…” Jax breathes, like he’s in awe. “Look at this brain activity…it’s massive.”
“What do you mean?” Trey asks with relief in his tone.
Jax grins. “She’s lighting everything up. Look at her frontal lobe…it’s off the charts.”
“What does that mean? Is she healthy?” Trey growls.
Jax nods enthusiastically. “She’s healthy! We didn’t fry her with heat stroke, that’s for sure. Or, if we did, she’s got more brain activity than anyone I’ve ever seen to compensate for it,” he replies, sounding seriously geeked about it.
“Those things aren’t broken, are they?” Trey asks speculatively.
“No…here.” Jax pulls them off my face. “Wayra, come here.”
Wayra walks over and Jax puts the glasses on his eyes. “See! He’s normal, well, normal for him. See how it doesn’t light up in these areas?” he points out to Trey.
“Yes.”
“Now watch this,” he says, taking the glasses off of Wayra, he places them back on my face. “See? It’s like Christmas in Chicago with all those lights,” Jax says proudly.
“So that means she’s smart?”
Jax beams. “Yeah, she’s smart! She’s brilliant! There’s no telling what she can do.”
“If she’s so smart, why did she run until she almost popped? Why didn’t she just tell us she needed to rest?” Wayra asks derisively.
“Personality flaw,” Trey replies. “She’s going to show us that she’s not weak.”
“She’s sitting right here,” I murmur, pulling the glasses off my face and handing them to Jax

Author Bio
I live in Michigan with my husband and our two sons. My family is very supportive of my writing. When I’m writing, they often bring me the take-out menu so that I can call and order them dinner. They listen patiently when I talk about my characters like they’re  real. They rarely roll their eyes when I tell them I’ll only be a second while I finish writing a chapter…and then they take off their coats. They ask me how the story is going when I surface after living for hours in a world of my own making. They have learned to accept my “writing uniform” consisting of a slightly unflattering pink fleece jacket, t-shirt, and black yoga pants. And they smile at my nerdy bookishness whenever I try to explain urban fantasy to them. In short, they get me, so they are perfect and I am blessed.

Our 4 Star Review

Kricket has been evading the system for years waiting to age out so she can go to school and make something of her life, and find a home. But as her birthday draws closer strange men come after her. And things get stranger from there as she finds out she is from another dimension and is wanted by different groups for who she is and what she can do. Can she navigate this world on her own or is there anyone she can trust to help her figure things out?

This is a great start to a new series. I loved Kricket's strength and fierce determination to survive. The way she sees every situation for what it really is and doesn't see the world through rose colored glasses helps keep her on her toes. She's not afraid to say what's on her mind and go after what she wants. Trey tried so hard to be tough, but I loved seeing though his exterior to who he really was and how he was willing to do anything to protect his charge.

I enjoyed getting into this new world Amy has created and seeing the many different aspects come together to create an exciting story. My only complaint??? Being a new story I would have liked a bit more explanation of the different terms created for this story, there were some places where things were explained perfectly and others where I was left a bit confused as to what they were talking about. Overall though I understood where the story went and can't wait for more in this series.

Logan Kalford was Wren Summers’ dream come true.
All I’d ever wanted was to fall in love and be loved in return.
Logan stole my heart when I least expected it. He was sexy, adventurous, and the way he played guitar left me weak in the knees. He made me happy. He made me think I’d found the one. And he made me believe in happy endings.
I knew he was my forever. I thought he knew it too.
I was wrong.
He destroyed everything I thought we had and shattered my dreams of us. He left me heartbroken. He made me doubt myself.
And he didn’t even seem to care…
Now I must let go. But how can I when he still consumes me?
How do you walk away from what you know was real?

Our 3.5 Star Review

Wren is just coming out of a long term relationship after finding out her boyfriend had been cheating on her. As she works at a restaurant that also has live bands at night she meets Logan, a gorgeous blue eyed guitar player. But this time around she tries to be more cautious of being with someone and when Logan starts blowing her off she realizes she let her heart get involved again. As she's trying to get over him she meets a member of another band Aaron and while he seems great she's not sure she's ready to put herself out there again. With so much confusion the one guy that's there for Wren is Zachary he works at the auto shop with her and they have been friends for a long time. When her ex comes back into the picture threatening her which of her would be suitors will be there for her and who really holds her heart?

I liked the basic storyline of this one. That being said I thought the characters could have used more to their background stories. I kept wondering who they really were beyond the basic stuff we learned about them. Everyone seemed one dimensional, and there was no real depth. I kept trying to figure out why Wren did things the way she did and allowed herself to be trampled on at certain points. The characters also seemed a little Juvenile, not really having a set path even though they were in their mid-upper twenties.

So what did I like about the characters. I loved the humor some brought throughout the story and how Wren didn't just settle just because there was someone else there. She didn't end up with my favorite guy, but she stuck to her guns and didn't let anyone push her around and tell her who she should end up with. Yea everyone gave their opinions, but she did things her way.

VIP by M. Robinson Blog Tour Review

Title: VIP
Author: M. Robinson
Genre: Erotica

The beginning- A point in time or space where something starts.
32 year old Sebastian Vanwell, was a very successful yacht broker, who always loved the design and architecture of a luxurious yacht. His only addiction was being on the water. He loved it, he thrived on it, and he needed it in his life. After a very stable, loving child hood with a few bumps, Sebastian married the love of his life. The one person that he knew would always be there. Julia was his rock, and he loved her more than life itself. Sebastian kept his addiction to the water under control, wanting to keep his time with his wife and son his number one obsession, that was until he saw her. This new addiction haunted him, the one compulsion that he couldn’t control no matter how hard he tried.
Ysabelle Telle hit him hard, knocking the wind from his lungs. Coming from worlds apart, beautiful, dark complexion Ysabelle Telle didn’t have the rich, protected background that Sebastian Vanwell had. Ysabelle lived a life of hell, in poverty, growing up with a drug addict mother that never cared, and horrific living conditions. Ysabelle lived for one person and one person only; herself. She was pure perfection, her beauty along with a flawless body had men lined up, driveling over her insuring her success as a VIP.
There are too many words that describe the effects when two diverse worlds like theirs collide. They both have too much to lose to get caught in the forceful pull, which could destroy them both.
Publisher's Note: This book contains explicit sexual content, graphic language, and drug use. Intended for mature audiences.

Our 4 Star Review

Aundrea has been battling cancer for four years. She has her family and a few friends and she's going through life the best she can. What she doesn't need is a relationship, after all once someone knows her secret they run away. When she goes off from her normal style and goes home with a man with amazing eyes she has the night of her life, but in the morning she leaves before he wakes up and things become awkward.  What she wasn't counting on was seeing him again as her brother-in-laws new partner in his vet business! Parker is persistent and as they become closer will the secrets Aundrea keeps tear them apart or bring them closer together?

Aundrea tries to act tuff for her family but inside she needs someone to lean on too. Parker is absolutely perfect and just the kind of guy you want on your side. I enjoyed the story and seeing the struggles and happiness Aundrea went through although sometime I felt like I was just waiting for something to happen. We finally got to see Parker's POV which is something I definitely would have liked at times through out but it didn't happen until the tissues necessary ending.

That One Summer Release by CJ Duggan

That One Summer (Summer #3) by DJ Duggan
Genre: New Adult Romance
Release Day December 17th

Loving Chris Henderson would be wrong. Diabolically disastrous. I mean, what is there about him to love? He’s moody, bossy, brooding, a control freak, and that’s on a good day … but there was one achingly obvious fact that haunted my every thought, every minute of every day …

He sure could kiss.

As the countdown to the new millennium begins, there is one thing everyone agrees on: no one wants to be in Onslow for New Year’s Eve.

So that can only mean one thing: road trip!

No longer the mousey, invisible, shy girl from years ago, Tammy Maskala is finally making up for all those lost summers. A new year with new friends, which astoundingly includes the bossy boy behind the bar, Chris Henderson.

She likes her new friends (at least most of them), so why does she secretly feel so out of place?

After chickening out on the trip, a last-minute change of heart sees Tammy racing to the Onslow Hotel, fearing she’s missed her chance for a ride. The last thing she expected to meet was a less-than-happy Onslow Boy leaning against his black panel van.

Now the countdown begins to reach the others at Point Shank before the party is over and the new year has begun. Alone in a car with only the infuriating Chris Henderson, Tammy can’t help but feel this is a disastrous start to what could have been a great adventure. But when the awkward road trip takes an unexpected turn, Tammy soon discovers that the way her traitorous heart feels about Chris is the biggest disaster of all.

Fogged up windows, moonlight swimming, bad karaoke and unearthed secrets; after this one summer nothing will ever be the same again.

Our 4.5 Star Review

Rosalie was happy with her life in her Hallow. Taking care of nature and enjoying life as a regular Pixie, until the day she viciously kidnapped and thrown in a hole for four days. When she's released from the pit she's thrust into a new life as a slave to faeries forced into making pixie dust for her captors. But she's strong and she's not gonna take captivity lightly, so when she tries to escape and is caught she thrust into the pit once again. This time though they won't let her out until she's well and truly broken, she wasn't expecting Jack. Jack got into trouble for a little prank and his punishment is reforming a stubborn Pixie, but when he finds out the truth of her enslavement he determines to help her. But what will happen along the way?

It took a little while to get into this Pixie world, but once there I was completely sucked in. Rosalie's Independence and strength shine throughout the story and you  root for her the whole time. Jack, once he found out what was really going on, is a real rock for Rose and I loved seeing his determination to help her out. Great read no matter what age you are.

Love to Bear: A Werebear Shifter Romance by A.T. Mitchell

Synopsis

Samantha Aarons left Sioux Falls with a broken heart for a fresh start in the Montana wilds. Outside Kalispell, the native bears are strange and ferocious – especially when a hulking grizzly steps out of the woods and frightens Sam half to death.

Werebear shifter Don Flood can't believe his incredible luck. The beautiful woman he discovers on patrol just might be his fated mate! The delicate flower faints after seeing him turn into a man, and Don sees his opportunity to charge straight into her heart.

But love makes men do stupid, dangerous things.

The Grizzly Bone Clan has a standing policy against allowing humans on their turf. Still, Don refuses to let the Elders' prejudice steal her away, doubling down on love after Sam reveals the key to the Clan's flatlining population.

Sam soon adores the passionate, wild love of her dominant grizzly man. But Happily Ever Afters never seemed further when a wicked conspiracy threatens to scatter their fate forever.

Can she survive becoming his mate...or will she feel heartbreak twice?

Our 3.5 Star Review

Samantha is out in the wilderness trying to repair her broken heart. When she gets lost in the forest and comes across a bear she tries to protect herself by spraying it, bit the bear moves out of the way and becomes a man. Don is mesmerized by the beautiful angel who comes across his path and when she faints at the sight of him shifting he brings her home to keep her safe. But her being there is a big no no and when she is discovered a council comes to a compromise allowing her to stay with Don in exchange for giving them information about the modern world which they are vastly out of touch with. As she digs through their records she comes across startling information and the one hiding it will do anything to keep for when she has discovered a secret.

There is allot of story packed into a small amount of space, because of that details were left out, and you just have to fill in the blanks. Overall the story is unique and very interesting drawing you in you just have to look past whats missing and enjoy what is there. I got a good laugh out of Sam's first impression of Don and admired her spirit throughout. And I absolutely loved Don, he was a strong Alpha male willing to do things his way even if it meant going against everyone else for his happiness and what was best for his clan.

So yes there was more backstory I would have liked to see and a few small inconsistencies but overall this is an enjoyable short shifter read.

Until he meets helion Haylie, with her sexy ass and quick whit there's something about her that makes him want to try. Haylie was the epitome of an awsome female lead. Seeing how much she cared for her daughter and the others around her no matter what gave her a definite thumbs up in my book. Cameron? Well he's a 21 year old guy, he's bound to make some mistakes along the way when there's so much going on that he wasn't expecting. Our 4.5 Star Review

Naomi is in Heaven learning to be an Arch Angel and enjoying her life and love with Lash. As she is preparing for her first assignment she learns the secret Lash has been keeping about her fathers death. Unable to face him she leaves without saying goodbye, but as her assignment evolves and she is forced to test her faith she must decide if she truly believes in destiny and all things happening for a reason.

Though told primarily from the POV of Naomi you also get to see things from Lash's perspective as well as others helping to give the story depth. I enjoyed seeing things from several POV understanding how each person felt about certain events. As the second in the series you already have an understanding for the characters but I loved how you got to know more of their backgrounds and why they are the way they are. Because the last in the trilogy is a prequel, in this one you get to see how things turn out and soon well see how it all started when the final book releases Spring 2014.

Loved the first two in this trilogy and am excited to see the last when it comes out. If you enjoy books like Amy A. Bartol's Premonition Series you're sure to love these too!!!
