When a deadly virus sweeps the country, Vivian Thomas sets out for California in hopes of seeing the daughter she gave up for adoption. Then her car breaks down and she’s faced with a choice. Give up, or accept a ride from redneck brothers, Angus and Axl. Vivian knows the offer has more to do with her double D’s than kindness, but she’s prepared to do whatever it takes to reach her daughter.

The virus is spreading, and by the time the group makes it to California, most of the population has been wiped out. When the dead start coming back, Vivian and the others realize that no electricity or running water are the least of their concerns. Now Vivian has to figure out how to be a mother under the most frightening circumstances, cope with Angus’s aggressive mood swings, and sort out her growing attraction to his brooding younger brother, Axl.

While searching for a safe place to go, they pick up a pompous billionaire who may be the answer to all their problems. Trusting him means going into the middle of the Mojave Desert and possibly risking their lives, but with the streets overrun and nowhere else to turn, it seems he might be their only chance for survival.

There's a virus infecting and killing 70% of the world and Vivian knows that if it's her last days, she wants to see the daughter she gave up 4 years ago. So when her car breaks down, she has to accept help from two rednecks and as they continue traveling to California they find more people who need help and Vivian becomes the mediator trying to keep the peace. As they continue toward their destinations she has to decide who to trust and who is only out for themselves, and that's before the dead start coming back to life. With new circumstances at every turn can she learn how to take care of other people and be taken care or will this new reality be the breaking point on what was already a crappy life?

Vivian is strong and sure of herself, she doesn't let the little things bother her. She's young and hardened in some things, but naive in others and it makes for an interesting mix in a character.

Axl has had a hard life and when it comes to people there's his brother and then everyone else. But he sees past what most people want him to and sees the truth of a situation before most others. He's hardened most of the time but he can be a big sweetie.

Angus is an ass plain and simple. He's easy to read and even easier to get on the wrong side of. The only person who can get through his thick head is his brother and while Angus thinks he's in charge you can see where Axl is pulling the strings too.

Each character his their own troubles and while it's all told from Vivian's POV you see allot of what everyone else is going through. The story is interesting and it makes you feel like you're right there with them trying to survive the end to the world. Definitely gonna be a series I'll be following as it comes out.
