Derek has everything he's always wanted and he'll do anything to protect Melissa, so when Sloan wiggles his way out of the charges Derek knows it's only a matter of time before he comes for Mel again. He's always done things on the right side of the law, but Sloan might just force to do things outside of the box.
Melissa is getting bigger and wants to look forward to the future and leave the past behind, something she tries to convince Derek to do too but when he uncovers some disturbing evidence they both realize that's not going to happen. Mel knows how far Derek would go to protect her, but if he takes things too far and gets caught it could take him away from her forever.
Mel is strong and feisty and won't let Derek hide behind a facade she keeps him in check, but also keeps him happy. Derek is alpha male to the core and uber protective he'd do anything and everything to keep those he loves safe, but he also has a tendency to live inside his head. Mel balances him out and vice versa the two are perfect for each other and I love how they never take the other for granted.
Enjoyed the new story blending in with the old and can't wait to see more from this series.
