One horrifying day will change the life of sixteen-year-old Shane Tucker and every other kid in the world.

In a span of mere hours, the entire adult population is decimated, leaving their children behind to fend for themselves and deal with the horrific aftermath of the freak occurrence. As one of the newly made elders in his small town, Shane finds himself taking on the role of caretaker for a large group of juvenile survivors. One who just happens to be Kelly Douglas—an out-of-his-league classmate—who, on any other day, would have never given Shane a second glance.

Together, they begin their quest to find out why all of the adults were slaughtered. What they find is even more horrifying than anything they could have expected—the annihilation of the adults was only the beginning. Shane and his friends are not the unlucky survivors left to inherit this new, messed-up planet. No, they are its next victims. There is an unknown power out there, and it won’t stop until every person in the world is dead.

A spine-tingling adventure that will have you gasping for breath all the way until the last page, The Last Orphans is the first book in an all-new apocalyptic series.

InD'tale Magazine--November 2014 Issue: Five Stars and a Crowned Heart!

"It only takes a few hours to drastically change life for Shane Tucker and every other child in the world. The entire adult existence is exterminated. The children are left to manage by themselves and endure with the cruel aftereffects. Shane is now one of the oldest in his town and has been placed in charge of a large group of survivors; including his crush Kelly. The children set out to find the reason all of the adults have died and never expected the answer they eventually find. The death of the adults is only the beginning - the unknown power won't stop until every human is dead.
Mr. Harris keeps one on the edge of their seat throughout this apocalyptic young adult story. "The Last Orphans" shows a terrifyingly realistic view of what could happen. The imagery is absolutely amazing, it allows the reader to live the story and feel the emotions of the characters. It is a wonderful experience and very refreshing reading about such strong characters given their situation. "The Last Orphans" gives readers a touch of romance, just enough so the reader will reminisce about what it felt like having that first teenage crush. This story is a great start to an excellent series and will have readers begging and pleading for more!"

4.5 Stars

Still reeling from the funeral of his grandmother, Shane's whole world goes completely crazy when every adult is killed by the animals going on a killing spree. Left trying to figure out what happened, Shane is suddenly a leader as one of the oldest people left alive.
With everyone looking to him to lead he'll have to trust himself and his friends to understand what happened and keep things from getting worse.

Shane is a natural leader even if he doesn't think he's quite right for the role. He's also not a dictator, but looks for the opinions of everyone as to what they should do next. He's strong and once he commits to something he'll see it through. He's also still a kid and at 16 he knows he doesn't have all the answers, but does the bet he can with what hes got.

This is a different type of Apocalyptic story and while a bit morbid at times it shows what could happen without sugarcoating things. It doesn't show the pretty side of what would happen, but gives you a grueling realistic version that keeps you wondering how these kids will do.
